Honda Statement on Recall

About 10,800 late model year 2010 to 2011 Accord and 2011 Pilot vehicles will be recalled in the United States due to a potential front suspension failure.

The machinery used to tighten the spindle nuts located on the front axles of both vehicles has a potential problem. Another problem lies in the damper attachment bracket bolts on the Pilot. Both of these problems could cause the front suspension of a small number of Pilot and Accord vehicles to fail. The problem has been identified as a software glitch used for the equipment at the Alabama plant.

Of you own one of the affected vehicles, you will receive notification. You are to bring your vehicle to a Honda dealership for an inspection and if you own an Accord, the spindle nuts will be replaced. $70M Expansion for Honda

Honda is planning to spend $70 million in an expansion project that will be 200,000 square feet. The project will create more than 100 full time jobs. It will allow the Ohio plant to build the latest transmission technologies that Honda has developed. The production is expected to begin in 2012.

60 jobs are also going to be added in early 2011, when a second shift will be added. An additional $25 million is going to be used in renovation projects that will make the plant more flexible.

In total, Honda will spend more than $490 million to expand the Ohio plant. A third assembly line will be added and there will also be new operations so that the plant can produce the new transmissions. The two existing assembly lines will be moved to the new manufacturing space once it is completed.

The current machines already in the plant are also being renovated and updated, which will make the the plant a powerhouse. Capacity to produce automatic transmissions will increase to over 1 million from the current 800,000 annually.

Retention Rates Are High

J.D. Power's latest Customer Retention Study was based on the responses from 123,601 new car buyers. In 81,350 cases, the car that was being replaces had also been purchased new by that particular owner. The findings?

Ford and Honda owners are more likely than any other owners to opt for another vehicle of the same brand. Both of the brands toped the J.D. Powers list. 62% of owners of both brands decided to stay with that particular brand.

In the case of Honda, the models that had the strongest customer retention are the CR-V, Accord, and Pilot.

Hyundai also made it onto the list, with a 60% customer retention rate. According to the list made by J.D. Powers, retention rates have improved slightly over last year.

It seems that customers are making their decisions based more on emotional reasons than on practical ones. For example, resale values are not as important this year as they were in years past. This is another sign that the market conditions are improving.

November was a very good month for American Honda. American Honda sold 89,617 vehicles in November, which was an increase of 16.1 percent. This percentage was based on daily selling rate. The year-to-date sales for American Honda reached 1,100,864. This is an increase of 5.9 percent over last year and is based on the daily selling rate.

The Honda division alone had sales in November of 78,899, 15.9 percent more than last year. The Honda Accord was the top-selling vehicle of the month and 19,025 Accords were sold, which was an increase of 5.8 percent. After the Accord was the CR-V, which sold 18,263 in an increase of 25.4 percent and the Civic was third with sales of 16,562, an increase for the Civic of 16.3 percent. The newly released 2011 Odyssey is continuing to see a warm welcome, and in its second month on market has sold 8,805, up a total of 31.7 percent. Honda light trucks saw a sale increase of 24.7 percent and sales of 38,802 vehicles. Car sales were a total of 40,097, which was an increase of 8.5 percent.

They have made covers of traditional holiday favorites. "Deck the Halls" will go along with the new Genesis campaign, where the new lease offer of $399 a month is offered. Every year, J.D. Power and Associates conduct a U.S. Sales Satisfaction Index Study (SSI). In the 2010 study, Hyundai has shown significant improvement in its position. Overall, Hyundai ranked number seven. Hyundai has also been the company with the greatest improvement out of all the mass market brands from the year 2009. It moved from number sixteen in 2009 to number seven in 2010.

What is the SSI study? It is a comprehensive analysis of the experience of purchasing a new vehicle. The overall customer satisfaction is measured in four factors. These four factors are working out the deal, delivery process, salesperson, and the dealership facility. The study this year found that the way customers are treated by the dealership was more important than the actual price of the transaction.

While Hyundai ranked seventh in the Initial Quality Study, it also ranked 11 in the Vehicle Dependability Study. This plays Hyundai four ranks higher than industry average and three over its 2009 position.

The Veloster will be available for sale in the United States in the first half of 2011. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has redone the way they test vehicles. The tests are more stringent and use a new concept called the Overall Vehicle Score, part of the federal government's New Car Assessment Program (NCAP). 2011 models are the first to be put through the tests, and it is meant to be a help to new car shoppers. The Overall Vehicle Score combines the results from frontal crash test, rollover-resistance tests, and side crash tests into a single rating, from one to five stars.

For the first time, crash test dummies are both male and female. Frontal crash safety tests now use a small female dummy in the front passenger seat and a male as normal in the driver's seat. Side-crash tests include the side-barrier test that has been used previously where a moving barrier hits a still car at an angle. Added to that is the new side-pole test where a moving vehicle hits a stationary pole. Again, for the first time female dummies are used and the dummy is in the back of the vehicle.

Located in Greensburg, Indiana, Honda Manufacturing of Indiana, LLC (HMIN) got the LEED Green Building Certification for the Welcome Center. This is the ninth of Honda's North American facilities to receive LEED certification since the year 2008.

LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and is a rating system for various types of buildings. It is awarded by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI). It is a recognition of green building practice and performance globally. Located in Decatur County, HMIN is the first company to receive this recognition.

There are six categories that the Welcome Center was evaluated in. The categories are Water Efficiency, Innovative Design, Sustainable Site, Energy & Atmosphere, Indoor Environmental Quality, and Materials & Resources. October was a very good month for American Honda Motor Company, Inc. The company sold 98,811 vehicles . This is an increase of 19.8 percent on the daily selling rate. Year to date sales have reached 1,011,247, which is an increase of 5.1 percent over last year.

The Honda Division alone had an increase of 20.2 percent in in October, selling 87,040 vehicles. The top selling Honda? The Accord, with an increase in sales of 8.8 percent, totaling 24,344. After the Accord was the CR-V and the Civic. The CR-V had an increase in sales of 19.4 percent, selling 18,040 vehicles. The Civic sold 17,121 vehicles and enjoyed an increase of 11.9 percent. The 2011 Odyssey has only been on the market for a month, and the model line has seen an increase of 52.2 percent. The redesign was an excellent choice for Honda, because it seems that people have not only taken notice, but are falling in love with the mini-van all over again.

Another area that the Honda Division saw an increase in sales? Light trucks. The sale of light trucks has increased 37.8 percent and 41,463 were sold in October.

There's a whole new reason to love the 2011 Hyundai Sonata - it has earned the top safety rating from the NHTSA.

Hyundai Sonata is one of only 2 models to earn a five-star overall vehicle score after going through updated tests. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the Sonata the overall five-star crash test rating, which is the highest government ranking and is under the New Car Assessment Program.

The 2011 testing procedures that the NHTSA used are more rigorous than the procedures used in previous years. Keep in mind that Hyundai prides itself on safety and the Sonata is built with that in mind. The body is made of high-strength steel that is hot stamped, has advanced airbag technology, and the electronic stability control system.

The new tests done by the NHTSA also take into account side pole crashes and the technologies used to prevent crashes. During the tests, female crash dummies were used for the first time; always before male dummies were used. This allows the NHTSA to see how crashes would play out with both men and women.

The Overall Vehicle Score, which is the biggest change in the way the NHTSA gives consumers the ratings, tells a lot about a vehicle. It combines the results of a frontal crash test, rollover resistance tests, and side crash tests. This gives the average risk of injuries to passengers in a crash, and the potential for the vehicle to rollover.

The 2011 Hyundai Sonata scored well in every phase of the testing. It received five stars in both side-impact and rollover tests, and four stars in the frontal crash tests. This gave it the overall score of five stars, making this a very safe vehicle for you and your family.

2011 Hyundai Sonata Turbo

The mid-size sedan class has been ruled by industry icons, such as the Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry, for years. It's been so long since a newcomer has actually stood a chance that many people have thought the market to be completely impossible to break into. Now, Hyundai is about to introduce the 2011 Hyundai Sonata 2.0T. Hyundai has spent $550 million on new research and new developments to make this new turbo-charged Sonata not only burst into the mid-size sedan market, but to leave its competitors in the dust.

For years, mid-size sedans have had a V6 under the hood, but the new Sonata 2.0T seeks to change that. It will debut a new turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Forced induction blended with a direct-injection system gives the little 2.0 liter, four-cylinder engine 274 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. You don't even have to worry about turbo-lag: you have a low rpm of 1,750.

Sure, Ford and GM has tried the same thing, but Hyundai has gone beyond to make their new turbo-charged engine something totally new. Instead of a standard cast-iron piece, the engine is housed in a cast stainless-steel exhaust manifold. This allows it to handle pressures beyond what i was designed for in order to make sure it last much longer. In fact, Hyundai has put it to the test. 300 hours of grueling wide-open throttle testing that was then followed up with an extra 20 hours with engine speeds that were above the redline.

The engine's temperature is kept under control thanks to Hyundai's new aluminum thermal sprayed counter spiny liner. This is a new way of layering aluminum on the outside of the cylinder sleeve, increasing surface area and allowing for better cooling efficiency. This is the first time such a spray has been used in the auto industry. Leave it to Hyundai to come up with such an innovation.

There is also a unique air channeling system that is located on the vehicle's intercooler. This guide sends air to both the intake and outtake areas located on the intercooler, keeping the intake air up to fifty degrees cooler than it would be if there were no guide.

Amazingly, this small engine can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.8 seconds. You don't even need to use premium fuel - regular unleaded will work fine. You can expect to get 23 mpg in the city and 33 on the highway. To help even more with fuel economy, Hyundai has included the Active Eco button. This feature flattens out the throttle fluctuations and keeps fuel consumption as low as it can possibly go.

Other than the engine, there isn't much difference between the Sonata 2.0T and the regular Sonata. The badges are different, but it still has the fluid design on the outside and the design is in no way a copycat of others. Inside, the interior is the same as the base Sonata. You still have the easy-to-use dual climate controls and the touchscreen navigation system, as well as the clear dials and displays.

The turbo-charged Sonata comes in at about $3000 less than competitors. This version of Sonata comes in at $24,145 without destination fees. Not much more than the base Sonata, which comes in at $19,195.

2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

The 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is a mid-size sedan that uses both gasoline and electricity. This is the first hybrid for the United States market that Hyundai has made. It sets the tone for the new system that Hyundai calls "Hyundai Hybrid Blue Drive." Some people think that Hyundai is joining the party of eco-friendly cars a bit late, but the delay is actually a good thing. It has allowed Hyundai to use lithium-polymer battery technology and this will be the first car with these kinds of batteries. This means that the battery will be more durable, smaller, and lighter.

There will be a four-cylinder engine and this vehicle offers 169 horsepower and 156 pound per foot of torque. The electric motor offers 40 horsepower and a 151 pound per foot motor. The battery is a 34 kW lithium-polymer batter and the car comes with a six-speed automatic transmission. In total, the car offers 209 horsepower, which beats out the hybrid versions of the Nissan Altima, Ford Fusion/Mercury Milan, and Toyota Camry. The Sonata Hybrid is a real automatic transmission instead of a CVT like the other companies have offered. In all electric mode, the Sonata hybrid can read speeds of up to 62 mph, which is much better than the current champion, the Fusion/Milan hybrid, which only can reach 47 mph.

The Hyundai Sonata hybrid is also best in class in terms of fuel economy. It gets 37 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway. Only the Fusion has a better rating, as it reaches 41 mpg. The Hyundai also has a low weight - according to Hyundai, it weighs less than 3500 pounds - and has regenerative braking and an electric A/C compressor.

In the gauges, there is a 4.2 inch LCD display that will tell you the drive mode you're in, fuel and battery levels, and the fuel-economy numbers. The car is also designed to be aerodynamic, which helps avoid drag and improve fuel economy. And of course, it comes with the safety features you except from Hyundai.

Prices haven't been announced yet, but more than likely the Hyundai Sonata hybrid will be cheaper than the Fusion hybrid, which sells at $28,000.

Haunted House Begins Tonight!

Tonight at dusk the Halloween celebration at Manly Auto Superstore begins. We've already talked about the attractions that will be there - Doc's Horrortorium, the museum style open house, The Last Ride, a three minute long coffin ride that gives you the feeling of being buried alive, and the Blind Scream, the 6400 square foot maze that is so dark you have to get through using a glow stick.

We thought it would be a good idea to address a few questions that you may have about attending the celebration. Firstly, the Blind Scream opens at dusk. Dusk happens usually around 6:45 pm, sometimes a few minutes later and sometimes earlier. In other words, when it gets dark outside, the Scream is alive.

Both of the haunted attractions - the Blind Scream and Doc's Horrotorium - are walk throughs. How long it takes to get through them depends on how quickly you manage to move. The later it gets, the longer the lines are so you should try to come early in the evening.

These are not attractions for those who are faint of heart. This includes children. The staff has the right to remove any child who seems to be traumatized and you will not get a refund. Just because a child is present does not mean that actors will lessen the intensity. Don't carry your child through - it's dangerous to everyone. Anyone 16 years and younger has to have a parent or guardian present. You cannot simply drop your children off.

If you buy a ticket online and the attractions close, you can come back another day. In fact, you can even print another copy if you end up losing your ticket. If you buy your ticket online or at the door, you can use your Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards. However, if you have to leave halfway through, your child has to be removed, or a member of your party is removed (and thus, you too) you will not get a refund.

Now for the last part of our little series about leasing or buying - GAP coverage.

Gap coverage is a very important part to consider when you lease or buy a vehicle. Also called gap insurance, gap coverage pays the difference between the amount you actually owe on your lease or loan, and what your vehicle will be worth if it is destroyed in an accident or is stolen. The majority of car leases have gap coverage built in, but car loans rarely do.

Without gap coverage, you can end up owing more on your lease or loan than you car is worth. With long-term loans and leases as well as refinanced loans, rolled-over loans, and small or no down payments, being "upside-down" is not uncommon. If you don't have gap coverage you could find yourself owing hundreds or even thousands to your finance company. This is true even if your insurance company has already paid for a car that has been stolen or totaled in an accident. For most who end up caught in this unpleasant situation, this comes as a nasty surprise.

You're better protected if you get a lease, but if you opt for a loan instead, you can buy gap insurance separately. The trick will be finding it.

So is it better to buy or to lease?

Short term you will pay less per month if you lease than if you were to buy. In fact, the monthly payments can be anywhere from 30-60 percent less than if you had a loan, even if you had a 0% or low interest loan. This is great if you have other expenses that need your attention every month.

Some people compare buying or leasing a car to a savings account. It's easy to see why.

When you buy a car, you can think of it like this: you are putting money in a savings account that declines in value. You will never get out of it as much as you put into it. Part of every payment you make will disappear into depreciation and finance charges. When the loan is paid off, what you have to show is what is left over after interest and depreciation are through with it. Therefore, it can be said that a car is a terrible investment. But then, most people don't buy cars as an investment.

Leasing is similar to buying but there is not savings account (no equity.) You will pay for what you use and won't have to put anything into a savings. At the end of the lease you will own nothing - you won't have a car to show. But you also won't own the depreciated part of the car that a buyer would have to deal with. The amount that a car depreciates is gone no matter whether you lease or buy.

When you lease a vehicle, you can use the money you save every month and put it into a savings account or mutual funds that will increase in value. Experts encourage this, but the majority of people will use that extra money for things like bills and groceries.

You will build ownership equity when you buy but you will not when you lease. Buyers receive equity because they pay higher monthly payments, essentially purchasing the loan. Part of those payments goes towards the equity. On the other hand, leasing will give you lower payments every month but no equity.

Let's take a car that costs $20,000. The estimated resale value of the car is $13,000 after a period of 24 months.

If you buy the car, you will have to pay the entire $20,000, finance charges, and fee. If you decide to sell the car later, then you won't be able to sell it, or trade it, for more than $13,000. That's $7,000 that you are not going to see.

Now let's lease the car. You will pay any possible fees and finance charges. However, you will only pay for the difference between the cost of the car and the resale value, or the depreciation cost. That means that you will pay just $7,000 to lease the car. This gives you lower monthly payments, which can be extremely beneficial for those who need lower payments.

If you want to keep the car, then at the end of your lease you will be able to buy it for the resale value of just $13,000. For some, this works out a lot better than buying the car right off.

So how are the payments different?

There are two parts to a lease payment: a finance charge and a depreciation charge. The finance charge is the money that the lease company finances for you to drive the car. Essentially, you are borrowing the money that your leasing company used to buy the car from the car dealer. The depreciation charge is what you pay to the leasing company and compensates them for the value that the car loses while you are driving it.

Loan payments also have two parts: the finance charge and the principal charge. The finance charge is the interest that you pay on the loan while the principal charge pays off the full price of the vehicle you are buying.

Some people consider part of the principal charge as a depreciation charge like you would get if you leased the car. This is because all vehicles lose value whether they are bought or leased, and they lose value at the same rate. This money is essentially lost because you will never get it back, even if you should sell your car later because the car has lost value.

What's left of the principal payment will go toward equity. Once depreciation has taken hold, equity is what remains of the car's original value when the loan ends. This is your resale value. The longer you drive and own your car, the lower the equity you will have. Once you have driven the car so long that the engine has worn out and the tires are falling off, you will only have scrap value. You will never get back the full amount that you paid for your car.

When you are hunting for a new car, one of the biggest questions you may have is whether you should buy or lease the car. There is no one answer to this question that will suit everyone. Everyone's situation is different, and the decesion of whether to buy or lease a vehicle depends on your individual situation and preferences.

Buying and leasing a car as two ways of financing an automobile. You can lease a brand new car or a used one, depending on what you are wanting. A lease finances the use of a car while a loan finances the purchasing of a car. Both methods are good ones, and there are benefits and disadvantages to both of them.

While you need to consider the financial differences, you should also consider what is important to you. Do you want a new vehicle every two or three years? Would you rather have higher monthly payments but have some ownership in your car? Do you actually want to own your car or do you want to trade up? These are important considerations.

Buying and leasing are very different things. When you buy a car you will pay for the car's entire cost, no matter how many miles you may drive. You usually make a down payment and also pay sales tax which you can sometimes roll into your loan. You also pay an interest rate which is determined by your loan company and is based on your credit. Your first payment is made right after your sign your contract. Later on, you can sell or trade your car for the depreciated resale value.

When you lease a car, you only pay a portion of the cost. You are paying for the time you use the car. This is not the same as renting. You don't have to make a down payment when you lease but you will pay sales tax on the monthly payments, at least in most states. Change the Oil to Prolong the Life of Your Car

Everyone has heard that it is important to change the oil in your car but many people don't realize exactly why the oil needs to be changed. Changing the oil helps to lengthen the life of your engine and can save you money in repair costs because your car will not be breaking down.

To change the oil and the oil filter - something that many people tend to forget when they do an oil change - you drain out the old oil and put in fresh, new oil. You can find many brands of oil to use, such as Castrol or Valvoline. You can do the oil change at a professional's garage or you can do the oil change yourself. You will need something to catch the oil you drain, a rag to clean your hands, and a quart of new oil.

So why should you change the oil in your car? Oil is a lubricant for your engine and it keeps parts from rubbing together. This makes your engine last longer because the rubbing can cause serious wear on your engine, resulting in a shortened life span and possibly repair bills. Oil also can neutralize acids that are in your engine. Additives in the oil keep the acids from damaging your engine; after a time, the oil loses those additives and can't neutralize the acids. Impurities such as dust, water, and combustion byproducts are kept in suspension by oil. When the oil is saturated with these impurities, the oil cannot protect your engine and the impurities begin to cause corrosion.

So when should you change your oil? You should check the oil level in your car every few hundred miles. To do this, simply pull out the dipstick and if it says you are low or at the minimum level, add oil until it says full but no more than a quart. The recommendations vary as to whether you should change your oil every 3,000 miles or every 10,000 but most of the time if you change your oil every 5,000 miles you will be able to make optimum use of your engine.

When to change your oil depends on how you drive as well. If you drive on dirt roads, drive fast, start and stop abruptly, carry heavy loads or have a jam packed car or have an old, oil burning engine then you should change your oil more frequently. This will allow you to drive the way that you normally do without incurring huge repair bills.

Tire Rotation

Did you know that you should have your tires rotated regularly? When you rotate your tires they will definitely last much longer and in the end will save you more expenses that can occur because of the wear and tear that is happening to them.Your front tires should be rotated so that they will at last at least every 10,000 to 20,000 miles and that your rear tires should be rotated so that they will last at least every 50,000 to 80,000 miles.

The reason tires need to be rotated is so the tires will even out their wear and when done in the right way they will all be worn out at the same time. When you rotate your tires it is a good chance for you to also have your brakes inspected. Brakes are just as important if not more so to be checked on a regular basis.

Your car tires should be rotated at a minimum of every 6,000 to 7,500 miles. When you get your tires rotated it insures that your tires will be properly inflated and that a physical inspection will be happening as well. It just makes practical sense as well to do them both at the same time.

Different tire manufacturers suggest in different ways what is the correct way to have your tires rotated. Tires should be rotated in a straight forward and a straight back or another option can be if you criss cross the fronts and or the backs before you do rotate them. It really matters as to how the wear and tear is occurring on the pattern of your particular tire.

A big reason that for shocks and struts to wear out faster is because tires can tend to do what is called scalloping and it causes a whining noise or a humming noise when your tires reach the higher speeds. By rotating the tires it changes the direction of the rotation and then it evens out the wear and you won’t experience those noises.

If you have an alignment problem you need to get that fixed right away because this is causing your tires to wear down faster then it should. When your tire begins a wear pattern it is going to continue with that pattern until it wears itself out or you throw it away. It is never a good idea to just put one new tire at a time on your car and also make sure that you are also checking on that spare tire in your trunk area at least once a year to make sure it is showing no wear and is properly inflated, there is nothing worse then having a flat tire because you failed to have your tires rotated or replaced and they wore themselves down and are now sitting on the side of the road with a flat! However there are many problems that they are running into that need to be resolved before they will actually be put on the market. Many are asking where will people get the hydrogen and how expensive will these hydrogen cars be along with many other questions. Many are asking whether or not hydrogen vehicles will really be as non polluting as everyone is making them out to be.

Hydrogen cars manufacturing is not so different then making the typical vehicles of today. Hydrogen cars and electric cars have the same thing in common when it comes to creating electricity with the same type of electrical system.

The biggest problem everyone is facing is how we will actually end up producing the hydrogen to power these vehicles. Even though hydrogen is the most abundant of elements it is also the lightest of the elements. It is actually very difficult to contain hydrogen because it floats off the surface of the planet almost immediately. What hydrogen that is actually on our surface comes in the form of water molecules and that we definitely have a lot of water on the surface our planet.

Nearly 150 years ago Sir William Grove discovered how to pull hydrogen from water by using electrolysis. When this is done an electric current will run through the water which breaks it down. The process is a slow one but since we have so much water on our planet it could definitely be done on a large scale production.

There are experts that are suggesting that there is a possibility to produce hydrogen by building small hydrogen plants and these then can be put into the average person’s garage so that there would be no need to create local fueling stations. Others suggest that electrolysis could be put directly in the cars themselves however this would be a more costly venture as well as the fact that this particular process would require a battery that would need to be re-charged every so often.

Automatic Transmission versus Manual Transmission

Everyone has their favorite when it comes to driving a car that has automatic transmission versus manual transmission. Many try as they might give up on learning how to drive the manual transmission cars because they get frustrated with the car dying on them all the time. As far as the difference for power when it comes to a five speed manual transmission there is more of a rapid acceleration then there would be with an automatic transmission. A drive controls the gear changes with a stick shift where a driver with automatic will be able to have sufficient enough power on its own for the new gear it moves into. Many times automatic shifting to a higher gear to quickly will stop any full throttle acceleration.

The down side for automatic cars is that they do use more fuel then a manual car. The reason for this is that it takes more power to operate a car that has automatic transmission and that they require more complex servicing then a manual car would need. Also if an automatic car battery goes dead it won’t move and a manual stick shift car can be pushed in order to get it started.

Having a manual shifting car does have less of a resale value but the other side of the coin is that they normally cost a little less then the automatic cars.

Those people that learned how to drive a manual transmission car from the very beginning wouldn’t trade their manual shifting car driving for anything but as well those that have only learned how to drive an automatic would not think to bother to try to learn to drive a manual transmission car. It is definitely is a personal choice but either way both choices have positive sides as well as negative sides.
