Sonata Sales Sets Record

Hyundai has sold more than 200,000 Sonatas, and that's set a new record.

The Sonata is the first midsize sedan that has an all 4 cylinder line up and is the most fuel efficient lineup in the industry. It is also the first midsize sedan to receive double 5 star crash test rating under the new system set up by the NHTSA and Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Over 200,000 Sonatas were sold in the United States, a new record for 2010, and more than 110,000 were sold in Canada for the first time ever. In fact, it's not a surprise at all. The innovation that Sonata has brought to the industry has completely reset one of the hottest markets. The Sonata is highly popular not just because of the safety it offers, but because it's affordable. Nearly anyone can afford a Sonata and it works equally well for families and businessmen alike. With fuel efficiency nearly second to none, it's perfect for the masses.

Top Safety Picks

Hyundai has proven that they are a company concerned with customer safety. Four Hyundai models, including the Sonata, which is a North American Car of the Year finalist, have achieved the coveted 2011 Top Safety Pick honor from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The Sonata is joined in receiving this honor by the Hyundai Genesis, Santa Fe, and Tucson. Top Safety Pick recognizes vehicles that do the best at protecting people in rear, side, and front crashes and in rollovers. The decision is based on tests performed by the IIHS. All winners are required to have electronic stability control, a feature that helps avoid crashes and reduces the risk of a crash significantly.

These ratings help consumers choose vehicles that offer more protection than what the federal safety standards require. All qualifiers must earn a "good" rating for performance in roof strength tests so that protection in a rollover crash can be accurately rated. Roofs have to be double the federally required strength to qualify.

Honda Statement on Recall

About 10,800 late model year 2010 to 2011 Accord and 2011 Pilot vehicles will be recalled in the United States due to a potential front suspension failure.

The machinery used to tighten the spindle nuts located on the front axles of both vehicles has a potential problem. Another problem lies in the damper attachment bracket bolts on the Pilot. Both of these problems could cause the front suspension of a small number of Pilot and Accord vehicles to fail. The problem has been identified as a software glitch used for the equipment at the Alabama plant.

Of you own one of the affected vehicles, you will receive notification. You are to bring your vehicle to a Honda dealership for an inspection and if you own an Accord, the spindle nuts will be replaced. If you own a Pilot, the bracket bolts will be replaced and so will the spindle nuts if necessary. You can also call Honda or go online to find out more.

$70M Expansion for Honda

Honda is planning to spend $70 million in an expansion project that will be 200,000 square feet. The project will create more than 100 full time jobs. It will allow the Ohio plant to build the latest transmission technologies that Honda has developed. The production is expected to begin in 2012.

60 jobs are also going to be added in early 2011, when a second shift will be added. An additional $25 million is going to be used in renovation projects that will make the plant more flexible.

In total, Honda will spend more than $490 million to expand the Ohio plant. A third assembly line will be added and there will also be new operations so that the plant can produce the new transmissions. The two existing assembly lines will be moved to the new manufacturing space once it is completed.

The current machines already in the plant are also being renovated and updated, which will make the the plant a powerhouse. Capacity to produce automatic transmissions will increase to over 1 million from the current 800,000 annually.

Features of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra

The 2011 Hyundai Elantra is a vehicle that many people already have fallen in love with, and many more will once they test drive it.

The 2011 Elantra has 138 horsepower and 136 pound-feet of torque. The vehicle comes with either a manual or automatic transmission, both of which work smoothly and you get a wonderful fuel economy of 29 mpg city and 40 mpg highway.

For safety, all Elantra models come with six standard airbags. There are two front airbags, two side curtain airbags (which protect both front and rear passengers) and two front seat-mounted side-impact airbags. You don't have to worry about whiplash - the Elantra has front-seat active head restraints which reduce the amount of space between a front occupant's head and the head restraint if there is a real collision. These are standard on the Elantra.

You can get a great six speaker stereo system, touch screen navigation, front and rear heated seats, and much more on the Elantra. It's not a vehicle that leaves you wanting more, and not one that will break the bank. In fact, you will spend less on the Elantra than on many other vehicles but get even more.

2011 Hyundai Elantra - New Class of Transmission

You can choose from a manual or a six-speed automatic transmission when you purchase your new 2011 Hyundai Elantra. The new Hyundai six-speed automatic transmission is top of its class. It's lighter and more compact and has less moving parts, making it perfect for the kind of driving most people do. A single control unit is used for both the transmission and the engine, improving smoothness. In fact, the computer will cut the juice to the engine when you are in between shifts to help you save even more fuel.
This is a very comfortable, capable vehicle for the average commuter, soccer mom, and so on. If you want a manual transmission, be aware that the gear ratios are long and so it doesn't feel quite as peppy as the automatic version, and the clutch is soft compared to a vehicle designed to race around mountain road, but it's a lot more linear than other vehicles such as the Kia Forte. If you're new to manual shifting, you'll love the Elantra - the friction point is incredibly forgiving, and shifter is very precise.

In the automatic, shifts are extremely fast and smooth. No one would ever guess that this vehicle is not going to cost you upwards of $45,000! This compact feels quicker than the horsepower it claims, thanks to shorter gearing and the way the transmission is able to keep the engine in the power band all the time.
