Top Safety Picks

Hyundai has proven that they are a company concerned with customer safety. Four Hyundai models, including the Sonata, which is a North American Car of the Year finalist, have achieved the coveted 2011 Top Safety Pick honor from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The Sonata is joined in receiving this honor by the Hyundai Genesis, Santa Fe, and Tucson. Top Safety Pick recognizes vehicles that do the best at protecting people in rear, side, and front crashes and in rollovers. The decision is based on tests performed by the IIHS. All winners are required to have electronic stability control, a feature that helps avoid crashes and reduces the risk of a crash significantly.

These ratings help consumers choose vehicles that offer more protection than what the federal safety standards require. All qualifiers must earn a "good" rating for performance in roof strength tests so that protection in a rollover crash can be accurately rated. Roofs have to be double the federally required strength to qualify.

Pricing Announced for New Sonata Hybrid

Hyundai has recently announced the pricing for the new Sonata Hybrid. The vehicle features Hybrid Blue Drive technology and lithium-polymer batteries. There are just two trim levels to choose from - the base Sonata Hybrid, and the Sonata Hybrid with the premium package. Both vehicles offer 40 mpg highway, which is more than any other mid-size sedan, whether hybrid or not. In the city, the Sonata hybrid offers 35 mpg and has a combined rating of 37 mpg.

There are many key features of the Sonata Hybrid. For example, the basic Sonata has fog lights, power windows, locked and heated mirrors, integrated bluetooth, LED lights, six speed automatic transmission, and much more. The premium package adds features such as a sunroom, rear backup camera, auto-dimming mirrors, navigation system with a high resolution touch screen display and more.

Features of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra

The 2011 Hyundai Elantra is a vehicle that many people already have fallen in love with, and many more will once they test drive it.

2011 Hyundai Elantra - New Class of Transmission

You can choose from a manual or a six-speed automatic transmission when you purchase your new 2011 Hyundai Elantra. The new Hyundai six-speed automatic transmission is top of its class. It's lighter and more compact and has less moving parts, making it perfect for the kind of driving most people do. A single control unit is used for both the transmission and the engine, improving smoothness. In fact, the computer will cut the juice to the engine when you are in between shifts to help you save even more fuel.

This is a very comfortable, capable vehicle for the average commuter, soccer mom, and so on. 2011 Hyundai Elantra - The Engine

It doesn't matter what trim level you decide to buy when you get a 2011 Hyundai Elantra - you'll still get 29 mpg city and 40 mpg highway. You also will get a great engine. The 2011 Elantra comes with a 1.8 liter four-cylinder engine that gives you 148 horsepower and 131 pound-feet of torque in ULEV. If you prefer, you can also get a PZEV variant but you will lose one lb-ft torque and three horsepower over the regular version. Either version you choose will give you more power and better fuel economy than the competition such as Mazda3 or Honda Civic.

Hyundai went with a tradition multi-point fuel injection system instead of a direct-injection program. Why? Because it would keep costs down, and those lower costs can be passed on to customers. There are some clever tricks used to make sure that the engine will be as efficient as possible. These tricks are things such as dual constant variable valve timing and electronic throttle control. It helps keep the engine running as efficiently as possible while giving you great gas mileage.

Inside the 2011 Hyundai Elantra

The inside of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra has received a makeover. You can choose from 2 basic trim packages - the GLS and the Limited. If you look at the outside of the Elantra, you will see that the car has a fluid design. It's not quite as strong as the 2011 Sonata, but it's still graceful and flowing. The car has a lot of character and it looks not only cohesive but well balanced, and the new design allows the car to stand out among the rest.

Inside the GLS, you will find that the interior has attractive cloth seats. The dash is two-tone and has well-grained plastic underneath and soft-touch materials on top. You'll find the same flowing design on the center stack, steering wheel, and dash as you find on the outside of the car. In fact, there is plenty of room for full grown adults in the Elantra - even those who are six feet or over can sit comfortably in the front or back seats.

In the Limited you will find a seven inch touch screen that will give you controls to audio, iPod integration, and navigation. If you want the features, you'll be able to check on everything from the weather and traffic to the latest sports scores. You can get a rear view camera if you want it and many probably will not, as the Elantra has a lot of view space around it. You also get a six speaker, 360 watt stereo system with external amp.

The biggest difference between the GLS and Limited interiors? The addition of leather on the Limited. Both front and rear seats are leather and heated. You'll even find the seats are double stitched.

2011 Hyundai Elantra - Fuel Economy

The 2011 Hyundai Elantra is a vehicle that is blowing the competition out of the water. While many times the gas mileage on cars varies widely, depending on the features installed and what trim level the vehicle is, Hyundai is having none of that. All of the 2011 Hyundai Elantras have a very impressive fuel economy of 29 mpg city and 40 mpg highway.

So, other than saving consumers gas money, how does this add up to the other vehicles out there in the same class? Here's an example - to have nearly the same mpg with the Chevrolet Cruze, which claims to get 42 mpg highway, you will have to pay for the Eco model, an extra $1900 dollars. Don't like manual? Then you'll have to pay an additional $2825 to get the same mileage with a Cruze.

The same is true with the Ford Fiesta. While the vehicle is smaller than the Elantra, it doesn't have the same fuel economy. Unless you want to purchase the Super Fuel Economy package. That will force you to pay an additional $2765.

So not only will you save money on the Elantra in terms of gas, but you even save on price of the whole vehicle. The Elantra starts at just $15,550. The only vehicles that can meet or beat the fuel economy of the Elantra are the Civic Hybrid and the Cruze Eco but guess what - you'll pay anywhere from $3000 to $9000 more.

Even better: Hyundai didn't make horrible compromises to get those kinds of numbers. No matter what model Elantra you choose, you'll get that great fuel economy. No feature deletion, no weight reductions, and the vehicle is even a bit longer than the outgoing model.

Protect Your Car from Thieves

With the holidays often comes a lot of travel and sometimes car theft is an unfortunate part of that travel. When you are out holiday shopping, your vehicle could also become a potential target for car thieves. The busy holiday season is one of the most perfect ones for car thieves because car owners are distracted and stressed.

So what can you do to deter thieves?

There are many common sense precautions that you can take. For example, don't leave your keys in the ignition. Always lock your windows and doors, even if you are only going to be gone for a few minutes. It only takes a car thief a few seconds to leave with your vehicle. Always park in well-lit areas, and if you can, in areas where you will be able to see your vehicle. You should also make sure that if you leave anything of value in the vehicle, that it is locked up in the trunk or storage compartments, so thieves can't just spot them.

Warning devices are good ways to deter thieves. These are things like tire locks, alarms, theft-deterrent decals, VIN etching, steering column collars and so on. Another way is with immobilizing devices. These are devices that bypass the ignition and keep the car from turning on, even when hot wired. These are are kill switches, disablers, and the like.

You can also get tracking devices for your cars. These employ GPS and wireless and police can track your car wherever it goes. LoJack and OnStar are two such systems that can help you track your stolen vehicle.

Retention Rates Are High

J.D. Power's latest Customer Retention Study was based on the responses from 123,601 new car buyers. In 81,350 cases, the car that was being replaces had also been purchased new by that particular owner. The findings?

Ford and Honda owners are more likely than any other owners to opt for another vehicle of the same brand. Both of the brands toped the J.D. Powers list. 62% of owners of both brands decided to stay with that particular brand.

In the case of Honda, the models that had the strongest customer retention are the CR-V, Accord, and Pilot.

Hyundai also made it onto the list, with a 60% customer retention rate. According to the list made by J.D. Powers, retention rates have improved slightly over last year.

It seems that customers are making their decisions based more on emotional reasons than on practical ones. For example, resale values are not as important this year as they were in years past. This is another sign that the market conditions are improving.

Santa Fe Recall

Hyundai may be a brand that is moving up in the auto world, but they are not immune to the same problems that have often plagued other automakers.

The 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe SUVs that were built between September 28 and November 25, 2010 are being recalled. The reason? a manufacturing defect in the braking system. Now, this problem isn't as bad as it might sound. Complete failure is not likely to happen. Rather drivers experience poor pedal feel and reduced brake power. The root of the problem lies in rear brake calipers that were improperly machined.

The solution is very simple. All affected vehicles can be taken to any Hyundai dealership and new calipers will be installed at no cost to the owner.

Hyundai's New Marketing Campaign

The Hyundai company is trying a new marketing campaign this holiday season. They have brought onboard the breakout artists of the Internet - Pomplamoose. The Youtube duo will perform new music and holiday favorites for Hyundai's ad campaign.

They have made covers of traditional holiday favorites. "Deck the Halls" will go along with the new Genesis campaign, where the new lease offer of $399 a month is offered. "Up on the Rooftop" will grace the 2011 Sonata's spot featuring a $199 per month special. The song "Jingle Bells" will be used in several different ads. These ads feature new deals on the Elantra, Accord, and Santa Fe. This new campaign started November 22 and it will continue until January 3, 2011.

Hyundai Has Greatest Improvement

Every year, J.D. Power and Associates conduct a U.S. Sales Satisfaction Index Study (SSI). In the 2010 study, Hyundai has shown significant improvement in its position. Overall, Hyundai ranked number seven. Hyundai has also been the company with the greatest improvement out of all the mass market brands from the year 2009. It moved from number sixteen in 2009 to number seven in 2010.

What is the SSI study? It is a comprehensive analysis of the experience of purchasing a new vehicle. The overall customer satisfaction is measured in four factors. These four factors are working out the deal, delivery process, salesperson, and the dealership facility. The study this year found that the way customers are treated by the dealership was more important than the actual price of the transaction.

While Hyundai ranked seventh in the Initial Quality Study, it also ranked 11 in the Vehicle Dependability Study. This plays Hyundai four ranks higher than industry average and three over its 2009 position.

2011 Hyundai Genesis

The 2011 Hyundai Genesis comes in 2 different trim and powertrain levels. The 2011 Genesis 3.8 starts at $33,000 while the 2011 Genesis 4.6 starts at $43,000. Both vehicles come standard with rear wheel drive, 6 speed automatic transmission, 4-wheel disc brakes, and front and rear suspension. The 3.8 model has a 24-valve DOHC with Dual CWT valve train and the 4.6 has a 32-valve DOHC with Dual CWT. 17-inch 14-spoke alloy wheels are standard on the 3.8 and the 4.6 comes standard with 18-inch 14-spoke Hyper Silver alloy wheels.

Standard safety features are dual front advance airbags, front and rear seat mounted side-impact airbags, roof mounted curtain side-impact airbags, electronic stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes, electronic brake force distribution, brake assist, front seatbelt pretensioners, energy-absorbing steering column, electronic active front head restraints, front and rear crumples zones, and on the 4.6 front and rear parking assistance system. The parking assistance system is optional on the 3.8.

Standard features on both cars for the exterior are power heated outside mirrors with turn signal and projector beam halogen headlights with chrome, automatic headlights, front fog lights, chrome insert bumper moldings, and acoustic laminated windshield and front side. Other standard features on the 4.8 are smart cruise control, electrochromic auto-dimming outside mirrors (not available on the 3.8), High intensity discharge lights, adaptive front light system, and chrome bodyside moldings (not available on the 3.8).

Interior features include automatic temperature controls, power windows, proximity key entry, navigation system, leather seats with heated front seats, cooled drivers seats, leather wrapped steering wheel, rearview camera, and much more.

2011 Hyundai Santa Fe

The 2011 Santa Fe is Hyundai's version of the ever popular SUV. The MSRP is $21,695, considerably less than many other kinds of SUVs. You can choose from a manual or an automatic transmission. The Santa Fe offers a unique capability that you won't find in other SUVs - you can actually lock the wheels. Two Hyundai Vehicles Win Best Buy Award

Consumers Digest Magazine is a magazine that many people see as an authority on what products are worth buying and what should be avoided. Hyundai recently had two vehicles named by Consumers Digest magazine as a Best Buy. One is the 2011 Hyundai Sonata and the other is the 2011 Hyundai Genesis sedan.

Ratings are based on safety ratings, behind-the-wheel assessments, warranty, ownership costs, comfort, price, amenities, ergonomics, and styling. The Sonata won Best Buy in the Family Car category while the Genesis sedan won in the Luxury Car category.

ALG announced the winners of its 12th annual Residual Value Awards. ALG is the standard in the industry for depreciation data and residual values. Best Car to Buy? The 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Ever heard of the site "TheCarConnection"? The site is an easy-to-use shopping site for car shoppers that reviews cars and the Web's best. TheCarConnection has named the 2011 Hyundai Sonata the best car to buy 2011 and announced its decision at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show. The 2011 Sonata was at the top of the list with the highest numeric ratings out of all the vehicles that had a price tag that was less than $50,000, including the destination charge. The Sonata managed to beat out luxury cars such as the BMW 5-Series, the Infiniti M37, and others.

There were 40 nominees in the "Best Car to Buy Award" running. The winner was chosen based on reviews done by the site editors and the reviews are based on the road-tests that the new vehicles are put through. All new vehicles were rated on styling, performance, features, utility, safety, and were giving a green score. Opinions from all over the Web were then incorporated in the reviews. This combines to give car shoppers a unique site that makes it easier to compare vehicles.

Official Premiere of the Hyundai Veloster Coupe

Hyundai's finally released information about the much anticipated Veloster Coupe. The brand new entry-level sports coupe will be introduced at the 2011 North American International Auto Show, held in Detroit, in January of next year.

The Veloster will be available for sale in the United States in the first half of 2011. At first, the only model that will be available will be one with a 1.6L GDI four-cylinder engine but a 1.6L unit that has turbo technology and 175 horsepower will become available later in the year. A dual-clutch transmission will be included that has six speeds. The Veloster will get 40+ mpg on the highway. Prefer manual transmissions? You will be able to optionally select a six-speed manual transmission.

The Veloster is the replacement for the Tiburon. It will have sport aggressive styling, and if you have seen the pictures of the Veloster concept car, then you will see that it looks 70 or 80 percent like those pictures. You may not remember them - the concept was unveiled back in 2007.
