Top Safety Picks

Hyundai has proven that they are a company concerned with customer safety. Four Hyundai models, including the Sonata, which is a North American Car of the Year finalist, have achieved the coveted 2011 Top Safety Pick honor from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The Sonata is joined in receiving this honor by the Hyundai Genesis, Santa Fe, and Tucson. Top Safety Pick recognizes vehicles that do the best at protecting people in rear, side, and front crashes and in rollovers. The decision is based on tests performed by the IIHS. All winners are required to have electronic stability control, a feature that helps avoid crashes and reduces the risk of a crash significantly.

These ratings help consumers choose vehicles that offer more protection than what the federal safety standards require. All qualifiers must earn a "good" rating for performance in roof strength tests so that protection in a rollover crash can be accurately rated. Roofs have to be double the federally required strength to qualify.

Retention Rates Are High

J.D. Power's latest Customer Retention Study was based on the responses from 123,601 new car buyers. In 81,350 cases, the car that was being replaces had also been purchased new by that particular owner. The findings?

Ford and Honda owners are more likely than any other owners to opt for another vehicle of the same brand. Both of the brands toped the J.D. Powers list. 62% of owners of both brands decided to stay with that particular brand.

In the case of Honda, the models that had the strongest customer retention are the CR-V, Accord, and Pilot.

Hyundai also made it onto the list, with a 60% customer retention rate. According to the list made by J.D. Powers, retention rates have improved slightly over last year.

It seems that customers are making their decisions based more on emotional reasons than on practical ones. For example, resale values are not as important this year as they were in years past. This is another sign that the market conditions are improving.

Hyundai Has Greatest Improvement

Every year, J.D. Power and Associates conduct a U.S. Sales Satisfaction Index Study (SSI). In the 2010 study, Hyundai has shown significant improvement in its position. Overall, Hyundai ranked number seven. Hyundai has also been the company with the greatest improvement out of all the mass market brands from the year 2009. It moved from number sixteen in 2009 to number seven in 2010.

What is the SSI study? It is a comprehensive analysis of the experience of purchasing a new vehicle. The overall customer satisfaction is measured in four factors. These four factors are working out the deal, delivery process, salesperson, and the dealership facility. The study this year found that the way customers are treated by the dealership was more important than the actual price of the transaction.

While Hyundai ranked seventh in the Initial Quality Study, it also ranked 11 in the Vehicle Dependability Study. This plays Hyundai four ranks higher than industry average and three over its 2009 position.

Two Hyundai Vehicles Win Best Buy Award

Consumers Digest Magazine is a magazine that many people see as an authority on what products are worth buying and what should be avoided. Hyundai recently had two vehicles named by Consumers Digest magazine as a Best Buy. One is the 2011 Hyundai Sonata and the other is the 2011 Hyundai Genesis sedan.

Ratings are based on safety ratings, behind-the-wheel assessments, warranty, ownership costs, comfort, price, amenities, ergonomics, and styling. The Sonata won Best Buy in the Family Car category while the Genesis sedan won in the Luxury Car category.

Six automotive experts evaluated the vehicles. Assessments were done on an on-going basis under real-world conditions as well as test drives and new model introductions done by manufacturers. Fuel economy, ride quality, handling and steering, starting, accerlation, fit, finish, cargo space, and other features are all considered. This kind of information is extremely useful for those who are searching for a new vehicle.

Best Car to Buy? The 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Ever heard of the site "TheCarConnection"? The site is an easy-to-use shopping site for car shoppers that reviews cars and the Web's best. TheCarConnection has named the 2011 Hyundai Sonata the best car to buy 2011 and announced its decision at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show. The 2011 Sonata was at the top of the list with the highest numeric ratings out of all the vehicles that had a price tag that was less than $50,000, including the destination charge. The Sonata managed to beat out luxury cars such as the BMW 5-Series, the Infiniti M37, and others.

There were 40 nominees in the "Best Car to Buy Award" running. The winner was chosen based on reviews done by the site editors and the reviews are based on the road-tests that the new vehicles are put through. All new vehicles were rated on styling, performance, features, utility, safety, and were giving a green score. Opinions from all over the Web were then incorporated in the reviews. This combines to give car shoppers a unique site that makes it easier to compare vehicles.

2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

The 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is a mid-size sedan that uses both gasoline and electricity. This is the first hybrid for the United States market that Hyundai has made. It sets the tone for the new system that Hyundai calls "Hyundai Hybrid Blue Drive." Some people think that Hyundai is joining the party of eco-friendly cars a bit late, but the delay is actually a good thing. It has allowed Hyundai to use lithium-polymer battery technology and this will be the first car with these kinds of batteries. This means that the battery will be more durable, smaller, and lighter.

There will be a four-cylinder engine and this vehicle offers 169 horsepower and 156 pound per foot of torque. The electric motor offers 40 horsepower and a 151 pound per foot motor. The battery is a 34 kW lithium-polymer batter and the car comes with a six-speed automatic transmission. In total, the car offers 209 horsepower, which beats out the hybrid versions of the Nissan Altima, Ford Fusion/Mercury Milan, and Toyota Camry. The Sonata Hybrid is a real automatic transmission instead of a CVT like the other companies have offered. In all electric mode, the Sonata hybrid can read speeds of up to 62 mph, which is much better than the current champion, the Fusion/Milan hybrid, which only can reach 47 mph.

The Hyundai Sonata hybrid is also best in class in terms of fuel economy. It gets 37 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway. Only the Fusion has a better rating, as it reaches 41 mpg. The Hyundai also has a low weight - according to Hyundai, it weighs less than 3500 pounds - and has regenerative braking and an electric A/C compressor.

In the gauges, there is a 4.2 inch LCD display that will tell you the drive mode you're in, fuel and battery levels, and the fuel-economy numbers. The car is also designed to be aerodynamic, which helps avoid drag and improve fuel economy. And of course, it comes with the safety features you except from Hyundai.

Prices haven't been announced yet, but more than likely the Hyundai Sonata hybrid will be cheaper than the Fusion hybrid, which sells at $28,000.

2011 Hyundai Accent

The 2011 Hyundai Accent is an excellent car if you want something small, reliable, safe, and affordable. The Accent offers many features as the standard that you would pay extra for on many other models of cars. The starting price for the 2011 Hyundai Accent GLS, the only trim available, is just $13,695.

The 4-cylinder engine offers 110 horsepower at 6000 rpm - that's a lot for such a small car. The front-wheel drive is standard and so is the 5-speed manual transmission. You can choose a 4-speed automatic with overdrive as well. 4 doors makes it easy to get all of your passengers in and out. Enjoy power steering and front disc brakes as well as 14-inch steel wheels.

Worried about safety? Don't be with the Accent. You can choose to have 4-wheel anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution but it isn't a standard feature. A tire pressure monitoring system is, however. You also get advanced driver and front passenger airbags with the occupant classification system, which helps to protect children and small-statured people who are in the front seats. There is driver and front passenger side-impact airbags, which are seat mounted, and roof-mounted front and rear side-curtain airbags. All seats have 3-point seat belts with force limiters and there is a rear LATCH child seat attachment system that is standard. You also get rear seat low-profile head restraints, rear and front crumple zones, and an energy absorbing steering column. Optionally you can also get the power window lock-out button.

Need good gas mileage? You'll find it with the 2011 Accent. If you choose the 5-speed manual transmission, you can get 28 miles to the gallon in the city, 34 on the highway, and 30 combined. With the 4-speed automatic you get 27 mpg in the city, 36 on the highway, and 30 combined.

The body has the Advanced Compatibility Engineering body structure and vehicle stability assist with traction control, making it safer to drive. The anti-lock brakes and three-row side curtain airbags with rollover sensor add to safety as well. The front side airbags have passenger-side occupant position detection system or OPDS. This system checks to see if a small-statured person or a child is sitting in the seat, and prevents injuries due to airbags.

The 2nd-row seats are wide-mode adjustable and have armrest and a walk-in feature. There's air conditioning in both the front and the rear. The driver's seat has 8-way power adjustment and the 3rd-row Magic Seat is one-motion 60/40 split. You just have to pull a strap to have the seat easily lay down the way you want it to. Relax and enjoy the 229-watt AM/FM/CD stereo system that has 5 speakers, including a subwoofer, and the radio data system. Listen to your own MP3s through the input jack and enjoy the multi-information display.

It Makes Sense to Maintain that New Automobile

So you have made the decision it is time to purchase that new model automobile, you’ve picked out the color and found the price range you’ve been looking for. You’ve got your down payment and you’ve gone over the financing options as well as what your budget can handle as far as the payment along with any insurance costs changes.

But one thing you may not have figured on when you’ve made the choice to purchase this new automobile is what the actual expenses will be to maintain and keep your vehicle in good running condition. People normally do not put this part in the equation of their finances when it comes to their decision to purchase a specific model. In a recent Consumer Reports estimate over the next five years, you will spend four percent of the total cost of your vehicle on such things as repair and maintenance on keeping your vehicle in good condition. Sure, right now it doesn’t seem like a lot but it will seem so when you have to deal with a large repair such as a blown transmission.

Another recent study shows that an average American household will spend a minimum of almost $5500.00 on gas and automobile expenses. If you stop to think about this it adds up to almost being like a second car payment.

This American average includes all different makes and models. This also depends on what make and model automobile that you have chosen to purchase. For example if you purchase a brand new Honda Accord over a British sports car of course that maintenance cost will be much lower. Remembering to purchase a warranty from the beginning and this will help you out early on when a repair is in order.

In today’s economy, many people are hanging on to their autos much longer and keeping them in better condition then they were in the past. Also today’s autos are built to be much more dependable, it is not unusual to see a car go past the 100,000 miles on the odometer. With people doing the basic routine maintenance although at times this can be expense it will be spread out over many years.

With a person taking good care of their automobile they will prevent expensive repairs and any serious problems as the miles accumulate on their vehicle. Just by changing the oil or rotating the tires will save a person thousands of dollars down the road. Always make sure to check your owner’s manual as to the recommended maintenance schedule for you vehicle and you will have that auto for many years to come.

The Service Value of Sales Prospects

Dealerships in the past believed that the value of a sales opportunity was realized only if a customer actually made a purchase. But in today’s world they are finding that the value comes from every aspect of their business. They are now realizing that it is necessary to integrate sales prospects by giving them information into their marketing database and even more important is that it should be a part of their marketing strategy.

When it comes to marketing strategies for service, a typical dealer will rely on the customer that had previously purchased a vehicle from their dealership as well as using them as a feeder for their business and other service opportunities. With the economy today, many service departments are having to deal with corresponding a reduction in their revenue. A recent press release by J.D. Power & Associates stated that dealer service traffic volumes are expected to decline through to 2013 which will result in a 25 percent decrease in total service dollars.

These days to bring in new service customers a store manager will need to come up ways to increase their business and many dealerships are finding out that with used car leads from third party providers will help in turning that into a new car sale.

When a sales person is sourcing floor or phone customers they need to be able to encourage a potential customer and obtain their email address so in the future they will be able to send an offers or specials directly to them. Those prospects that are not willing to give up their email addresses to a sales person might decide to do so in order to get that deal on service.

Dealers should be competing for a customers business by offering a service package that is designed to win them over to your service department even in the event that the customer had purchased their vehicle at a competitor’s dealership.

Regular emails, coupons, testimonials as well as other information about service packages should be sent out by the Service Managers which are designed to be competitive along with their quick lube service centers.
Whether it is a new or used car lead and it actually closes you can set another standard for a sales practices by offering your new customer a free service or even a coupon for a series of discounted services package. It might seem to be something obvious to some and probably even effortless for a marketing opportunity, however, many dealerships do not do this. Many new vehicle owners are wandering out their doors with pretty much no information about the dealerships service department and nor are they receiving an incentive to return for future servicing to that very vehicle that they just purchase from them.

A successful dealership will be able to find ways to bring in those unsold prospective buyers and unlock each and every lead’s true value by taking it a step further in expanding their lead sources. In turn those that are Internet Sales Managers may be able to obtain additional lead budget dollars if part of that investment could be absorbed by the dealerships service department and include it in their marketing budget.

In trying some new techniques, you could make your dealership have a jump in the service portion of your business during a time when it will be needed the most.

Hyundai Pushes the limit

The leading fuel economy auto manufacturer, Hyundai Motor America announced its plan to continue being a leader in achieving their current average fuel economy rating of a minimum of 50 miles per gallon (mpg) and they intend to keep this going through to and beyond 2025 for all of their passenger cars and light duty trucks.

The NHTSA which is the Current National Highway Traffic Safety Administration regulations are requiring automakers everywhere to achieve the CAFÉ rating of a minimum of 35.5 mpg by the year 2016. Even before these rules were in place last year, Hyundai was already announcing its own plan to reach 35 mpg by the year 2015. With the announcement of this long term goal of planning to deliver a minimum 50 mpg CAFÉ rating by 2025 they are being consistent with their philosophy of being able to stretch their objective while aligning their resources. Hyundai will continue to challenge it team and bring happiness to consumers and society as a whole.

Hyundai’s president and CEO stated that by making their announcement to reach 50 mpg may seem like a huge leap by making this commitment they are organizing their R & D initiatives so they will be able to keep this goal for the future.

Hyundai wants continue to show their customers high quality and stylish products and still offer a fuel economic vehicle. Currently Hyundai’s Sonata for 2011 will be their first mid sized family sedan to offer a 4 cylinder engine. It has achieved the EPA highway rating of 35 mpg and leads their competitors for power output with the use of advanced gasoline direct injection or what is called GDI.

The Sonata’s sales are up 48 percent in the first half of 2010 and at the same time the transaction prices and the residual values have exceeded those of their mid sized competitors. The Sonata will offer its 2.4 liter Theta II GDI engine currently being built at their Hyundai Motor Manufacturing in Alabama.

Cash for Clunkers

Cash for Clunkers which been around for about a year now is a program that helps to jump start car sales during the current recession. Automakers are facing some pretty tough challenges during these economic times; however some companies have been able to increase their sales compared to the sales flow from last year.

All Honda sales were down over 5 percent, but currently sales tallies have increased well over 9 percent versus sales totals from last year. The strongest sellers seem to be Honda’s Odyssey, Honda Pilot and the Acura MDX.

As for Hyundai they continue their sales have increased 19 percent over last year and year to day they are up 24 percent which is a record for the company. Having redesigned their models which are now fueling the move forward the leaders for Honda seem to be the Sonata and Tucson. The Elantra is also selling strong with a 34 percent increase over last year and all this after last years redesign offing.

Nissan as well has posted a 12 percent increase over last year and has gained strong sales with their Rogue and Murano SUV’s. The new QC56 and Infiniti G Sedan has also had a sales increase compared to last year’s figures.

Subaru marked its highest ever sales increase which is up 10 percent even though they have experienced these sales increases during last years Clunker program. Overall their sales are up 30 percent over last years sales. Their recently redesigned Legacy and Outback are still drawing in customers.

Toyota sales overall are down 6 percent but over all the year to date figures show them up over 7 percent from last year. Their Camry is continuing to sell very well which is their second highest selling vehicle.
All continue to be hoping to see these numbers continue to increase as the year progresses quickly to an end. For the moment however they are enjoying record breaking numbers from last year’s full month of Cash for Clunkers sales.
